England in Pictures, Part 3

I played tour guide for the most part, making sure we hit all the classic London tourism spots.
We walked through Trafalgar Square,

 visited the Houses of Parliament,

took classic England tourist shots,
and strolled through Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens to see
the Peter Pan statue
and the Prince Albert Memorial

We visited St Paul's Cathedral, one of my favorite places on earth,

and Buckingham Palace as well.
Of course, we drank lots of tea,

and even caught a glimpse of the Queen herself!

the ultimate milkshake

Chiles Pies in San Fransisco makes a mean milkshake.  Apparently, you choose your ice cream flavor and then a slice of pie -- it all goes into the blender together to make what I am sure is the most extravagantly delicious concoction known to man.   Woah.

LEGO

This dude is a "Lego certified professional."  How cool is that?  I really, really love Legos and have often thought about what a fun job it would be to design the Lego kits... but my imagination never took me quite this far.  Wow!

England in Pictures, Part Two

We spent a day visiting a couple villages in the Cotswolds.
It may be one of the most charming places in the world.  I want a cottage in the Cotswolds.  Definitely.

Keep Calm and...

For all the ballyhoo surrounding the Keep Calm and Carry On slogan,  I never knew the back story.  I found this video to be enjoyable (and educational).

Euphorbia

How cool is this plant?  I love it!  It belongs in a Dr Seuss book, don't you think?  It's called a Euphorbia.  I had never heard of it before, but now that I have, I kinda want one!

Summer Tunes

Here's another song I'm gonna be playing a lot this summer.  Oh man, I'm digging it.

England in Pictures, Part One

Bath, England

The Pump Room

Our charming tour guide talks about the Royal Crescent
(The free walking tour is awesome!!)

Human use of the hot spring for which Bath is renowned
dates back to before Roman times.

The spring pumps out 1,170,000 litres of water each day.
Your tub would fill in 8 seconds with that kind of water pressure!

Oh, hello there

Hi Friends.  It's been a long time away from the blog, hasn't it?  Life has been totally crazy on this end.

When I got back from England (pictures coming later this week), I spent some time in PA with my family.  I came back to NY last week to start a new job!

I'm working for these guys:

 www.thefancy.com

and let me tell, they are just awesome!  My first week was unbelievably great.  I am so psyched!

Anyway, I'm back.  And ready to play!

Brenton Wood

Speaking of things that make me happy to be alive....

This is my new favorite song.  It makes me happy.   I'm dancing in my chair to it right now - just can't help myself.

Oogum Boogum, baby.

new apartment

So, there's been a lot of change over on this end lately.  Another item being that I may have to find a new apartment come June.   Not sure yet, but no matter - I've found my new place!  Unfortunately, I'll have to move to Hong Kong.

This place is SO COOL!

(Thanks for showing me this, Mom!)

why I love blogs

So, the other night, I was checking out an old friend's blog - where she mentioned a blog she'd been enjoying lately.  So I clicked and found an awesome looking recipe for an asparagus tart.

I had been planning to scramble some eggs and saute some asparagus for dinner (so glamorous, right?)  But divine providence clearly intervened.

I had to adjust the recipe a bit.  I didn't have puffed pastry hanging around in the freezer, so I made an almond flour biscuit.  Atop the biscuit, I spread mascarpone cheese, roasted garlic, and an egg.  Then I laid in the asparagus, and sprinkled on fresh parsley and pine nuts.

It was an excellent dinner.  Thank you blog world!

We did it, guys!  We made it through the trauma of early spring!
I don't know about you, but I am very much looking forward to May.

Happy May Day!

Handmade Portraits: Rob Ryan from Etsy on Vimeo.

I ran into this artist's work at Liberty of London back in the fall (when I fell in love with the quote on this notebook cover).  I love his work, and I think this video is super charming.

Knife Skills

Some chefs wield a knife like a magic wand - one flash and they're done!  I picked up a few tricks working in restaurants, but there's still a ton I don't know.  I'm hoping this Knife Skills series by Illustrated Bites isn't done yet!

I don't know about you guys, but I am dreaming of summer right now.
I have big plans for making this summer all magic and pixies.  Seriously.

David Whyte

When your eyes are tired
the world is tired also.
When your vision has gone
no part of the world can find you.
Time to go into the dark
where the night has eyes
to recognize its own.
There you can be sure
you are not beyond love.
The dark will be your womb
tonight.
The night will give you a horizon
further than you can see.
You must learn one thing.
The world was made to be free in.
Give up all the other worlds
except the one to which you belong.
Sometimes it takes darkness and the sweet
confinement of your aloneness
to learn
anything or anyone
that does not bring you alive
is too small for you.

I had forgotten this poem.  So glad to have it back in my thoughts.  Thanks, Amy.
