a tiny tiny house

So adorable! I've always gravitated towards small spaces, but I don't know, this is impressively tiny.

Thank God

SPRING is here. (I am so ready for this.)

Happy Spring, my friends!

Buckminster Fuller (my new favorite guy)

"Something hit me very hard once, thinking about what one little man could do. Think of the Queen Mary -- the whole ship goes by and then comes the rudder. And there's a tiny thing at the edge of the rudder called a trim tab.

It's a miniature rudder. Just moving the little trim tab builds a low pressure that pulls the rudder around. Takes almost no effort at all. So I said that the little individual can be a trim tab. Society thinks it's going right by you, that it's left you altogether. But if you're doing dynamic things mentally, the fact is that you can just put your foot out like that and the whole big ship of state is going to go.

So I said, call me Trimtab."

Have an amazing weekend!

My current state of mind reads as: in-constant-need-of-a-peptalk. That said, I wish I could make a button for my lapel out of this image.

woah

Japanese

I really love these Japanese flashcards!

[by Kathleen Marcotte via GoodGood]

bonus: a couple age old shots from my trip to Okinawa, Japan

Japan is such a beautiful country and culture. I ache for the people there. Technology has made the world feel much smaller,. Ages ago, we might not have even known anything happened, but with world news, modern travel, and cross-continent blogging relationships, these far away places have become more like neighbors, and it is so heartbreaking to see your neighbors suffer like this.

Take care, my friends. Our thoughts are with you. Heiwa. Heian.

I want to up my origami skills. I think I"ll start with one of these projects...

a box with a hinged lid

a toadstool

a fabric box

Tom Kimmel and Michael Lille

We rest here while we can but we hear the ocean calling in our dreams,
And we know by the morning, the wind will fill our sail to test the seams.
The calm is on the water and part of us would linger by the shore,
For ships are safe in harbor, but that's not what ships are for.

Little Lion Man, Mumford & Sons

New favorite band right here! Man, I love the banjo.

Thanks for the tip, Licia!!

bummed

A bunch of things have me super stressed and rather bummed out these last couple weeks. Namely, quitting my job and having nothing lined up except bills, bills, billls.

So, today, I am gathering together a few things that have made me cheerful this morning...

A deliciously purple breakfast

This photo of my little brother that my stepmom texted

My new favorite desktop background

and, lastly, the potential that I might be going to HAITI next month with soles4souls!

(SO much to be happy about. It is definitely time for me to stop whining about jobs.)

Just imagine, wandering the streets of Paris and stumbling upon magic like this...

Rumi

Keep walking, though there’s no place to get to.
Don’t try to see through the distance. That’s not for human beings.
Move within, but don’t move the way fear makes you move.
Today, like every other day, we wake up empty and frightened.
Don’t open the door to the study and begin reading. Take down a musical instrument.
Let the beauty we love be what we do.
There are hundreds of way to kneel and kiss the ground.

Have a lucky weekend!

"I'm a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work, the more I have of it."

[Thomas Jefferson]

I'm off to Atlantic City for the weekend, so I'm gonna need some luck myself.

project

Did I ever show you guys this project? My mom and I made these pillows as an engagement present for a friend of mine. A sort of modern twist on the classic silhouette. Pretty simple to make, and they loved them!

alphabet balls

These felted alphabet balls from Jack's Beanstalk are so cute, don't you think? I'm going to have to try my hand at these someday.

March

In March the wind
blows down the door
and spills my soup
upon the floor.
It laps it up
and roars for more.
Blowing once
Blowing twice
Blowing chicken soup
with rice.
