Have a wonderful weekend!
" 'Oh, how I wish I could shut up like a telescope! I think I could, if I only knew how to begin.' For, you see, so many out-of-the-way things had happened lately that Alice had begun to think that very few things indeed were really impossible."

Whoopie Pies
Cute, right?
Now, the recipe below here is going to say that you NEED to use Crisco. I've held off making Whoopie Pies for a couple years now, because Crisco makes me a little nauseous. I decided to give it a whirl when I found Earth Balance's natural non-hydrogenated shortening. I think they turned out great! (but I do not in any way consider myself a whoopie pie expert. The Mom mentioned below might very well find my version disgusting and disgraceful. As might you. Use Crisco if you like, of course. No judgement here. Either way, it's a great recipe.) Have fun!

jelly jelly jelly fish
Confession: I like sea creatures. I mean, fish are awesome, right? and scuttling little crabs. and sea horses. and sharks. I'm particularly partial to the octopus, but I do find jelly fish quite nice as well. (You know, in pictures and on film, etc etc... they're not so gorgeous wrapped around your leg stinging the bejeezus out of you, because I mean HOLY COW)
Anyway, I was very pleased to find this little gem by Nate Duval.
So gorgeous! His poster designs are also very fun to look through. As was his blog.
(OH! This reminds me - I have more pictures from Hawaii to share! Coming soon...)

bad karma?
I don't know what I did wrong, but I clearly did something... This weekend brought me a pretty nasty case of poison ivy and multiple wasp stings. That said, I'm taking a break. Typing isn't much fun at all right now.
[so, I tell my lovely sister about unnecessaryquotes.com, and then I get this picture in an e-mail from her. She's very "funny," obviously.]

Matthew Sporzynski
Have you seen the new Sherwin-Williams ad campaign, featuring images made out of paint chips?
Awesome, right?
Now, I don't know who's responsible for the videos, but the print ads are made by Matthew Sporzynski. He also does some pretty awesome work for Real Simple which is where I first saw his stuff.
It's just mind-boggling to me! I'm such a sucker for paper work like this!

commit
Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness. Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation) there is one elementary truth, the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves too. All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one's favor all manner of unforeseen incidents and meetings and material assistance, which no man could have dreamed would have come his way. I have learned a deep respect for one of Goethe's couplets:
"Whatever you can do, or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it."
by William H. Murray (from his book "The Scottish Himalayan Expedition")
I did it. As of today, I'm all in.

summer beverage
With the mint in our garden being thigh-high and rather autocratic,
I was so excited to try this super simple (and so delicious) mint-infused water.
First, grab a pitcher and squeeze half a lemon into it. Then, wash 5 or so stems of mint and rough the leaves up a bit. Toss the stems in the pitcher, and pour water over. Chill.
Voila. It's tasty and refreshing, and it de-jungles your garden lickety split.
Big thanks to Gatesy for the recommendation!

genius
I always love the before-and-afters on DesignSponge, but this one by Arnod of Belgium took my breath away.
Lordy Lordy, am I envious! What a stroke of genius!
(also loving their "best of" compilations. here for front doors and here for staircases)

so you think you can dance
We're big fans over here- my 3-year-old niece, Mica, most of all. She likes to get into costume (usually a bathing suit top and leggings) and dance around with them. The rest of us just sit there, watching, with our mouths gaping open. The dancing really is incredible.
This one is fantastic, especially because the contestant, Alex Wong, is a trained ballet dancer. He dances a hip-hop routine here with Twitch. (Dance starts at 1m15s)
Everyone is good, though... You should tune in- it's on FOX.
(click here for another great dance from last night, and here for Alex Wong last week.)
