some pretty sweet stuff

[via Mint]
I must learn to love the fool in me -- the one who feels too much, talks too much, takes too many chances, wins sometimes and loses often, lacks self-control, loves and hates, hurts and gets hurt, promises and breaks promises, laughs and cries. It alone protects me against that utterly self-controlled, masterful tyrant whom I also harbor and who would rob me of human aliveness, humility, and dignity but for my fool.

Seriously, now that I've seen these invitations, I have to throw a party. Make that three parties. Immediately.

Well done Rifle, you sure know how to rock it.

AVOCADO LOVE

For as much as I adore avocados, I never knew these little particulars!
(For as much as I adore avocados, I do not have tattoos of them on my arms.)

I don't know what the deal is

but i still can't upload pictures. very frustrating. anyway... When my friend Celeste was studying in Buenos Aires, I was lucky enough to get to visit her. She stayed in an AMAZING house with a host family. I would gush about it every time I went over there. This sneak peek on design*sponge reminds me of it. The rustic cement floors, the awesome doors, the center courtyard area... It's almost as good, isn't it Celeste?

crazy awesome yoga event

Geshe Michael Roach is coming October 9 & 10 for a special teaching on spiritual partnership and the yoga of Lady Niguma. Mercedes Bahleda and Will Duncan are coming as well to lead a kirtan.

If you happen to be not too far from Lambertville, NJ... or even if you are a little far, please come! Their other tour stops include Taipei, Hong Kong, NY, so this is an unbelievable opportunity. There are links to the event on the hosting studio's site and on facebook.

Have a good weekend!

pizza for your weekend

yum. I mean, really... YUM.

RED PEPPER PIZZA
Makes 2 12-inch pizzas; serves 8

Red peppers puréed with garlic and onion make a light, tangy alternative to the typical tomato pizza sauce. The cornmeal crust goes wonderfully with the pepper sauce and will keep up to 48 hours in the refrigerator.

Crust
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup cornmeal
3⁄4 tsp. salt
1 0.25-oz. pkg. yeast
1 Tbs. granulated sugar
1 1⁄2 cups warm water (115F)
1⁄4 cup olive oil, plus extra for greasing pizza pans

Topping
5 red bell peppers
1 onion, quartered
3 cloves garlic, minced
1⁄2 tsp. salt
1⁄4 tsp. ground black pepper
2 Tbs. dried oregano
1 lb. fresh part-skim mozzarella, thinly sliced
2 small zucchini, sliced
2 roma tomatoes, sliced
2 Tbs. capers

  1. To make Crust: Combine flour, cornmeal and salt in large bowl. Stir yeast and sugar into warm water in measuring cup; let stand 5 minutes, or until bubbly. Add yeast mixture to flour mixture, and stir to combine. Knead in 1/4 cup oil, and continue kneading 7 minutes, or until dough is elastic and no longer sticky. Transfer dough to greased bowl, cover and let rise 45 minutes. Punch dough down, and let it rise 45 minutes more, or, if making ahead, cover and refrigerate up to 2 days.
  2. To make Topping: Core and seed 3 peppers. Cut each pepper into quarters. Place in blender or food red pepper pizza 1 processor with onion, garlic, salt and pepper, and purée until smooth. Transfer to strainer set over bowl, and let drain 30 minutes. Discard juice.
  3. Preheat oven to 500F, and set rack on lowest level. Lightly grease 2 pizza pans or baking sheets with olive oil.
  4. Core and seed remaining 2 peppers, and slice into thin rings. Press half of dough into 12-inch round on pan. Spread with half of drained pepper purée, and sprinkle with 1 Tbs. dried oregano. Lay half of mozzarella slices on dough, and add half of pepper rings, zucchini and sliced tomatoes. Sprinkle with 1 Tbs. capers. Repeat with remaining dough and topping.
  5. Bake pizzas 10 minutes on lowest rack in oven, or until crust is crisp and brown and cheese is hot and bubbly.

Quite the bounty

There's no season like apple season
, it's true, but the petering out of our CSA harvest is starting to make me sad.

Would you look at this crazy house? DesignBoom tells the story behind this weird rectangle thing -- and let me tell you, you kinda won't believe the inside.

ah. i love the use of color in this house.

By Virginia Woolf, from "To the Lighthouse"

"For now she need not think about anybody. She could be herself, by herself. And that was what now she often felt the need of-to think; well, not even to think. To be silent; to be alone. All the being and the doing, expansive, glittering, vocal, evaporated; and one shrunk, with a sense of solemnity, to being oneself, a wedge-shaped core of darkness, something invisible to others. Although she continued to knit, and sat upright, it was thus that she felt herself; and this self having shed its attachments was free for the strangest adventures. When life sank down for a moment, the range of experience seemed limitless...Beneath it is all dark, it is all spreading, it is unfathomably deep; but now and again we rise to the surface and that is what you see us by. Her horizon seemed to her limitless."

Have a happy weekend!

[by Jim Smith]

mail

It's been a year for sending packages - to all sorts of places. I've always sent a fair amount of mail, but this year there's been a boom.

I love putting packages together. It's so fun! Just as fun as getting one, I think, or almost... I definitely recommend it. Big or small, you know, it doesn't make a difference. One time, all I sent was a chocolate bar and a little note. And there doesn't have to be an occasion to send someone something; a random package in the mail is an awesome surprise!

save our seas

Isn't that pretty?

by katie daisy via share some candy

The Invitation

It doesn't interest me what you do for a living. I want to know what you ache for, and if you dare to dream of meeting your hearts longing.

It doesn't interest me how old you are. I want to know if you will risk looking like a fool for love, for your dreams, for the adventure of being alive.

It doesn't interest me what planets are squaring your moon. I want to know if you have touched the center of your own sorrow, if you have been opened by life's betrayals or have become shriveled and closed from fear of further pain!

I want to know if you can be with joy, mine or your own; if you can dance with wildness and let ecstasy fill you to the tips of your fingers and toes without cautioning us to be careful, be realistic, or to remember the limitations of being human.

It doesn't interest me if the story you are telling me is true. I want to know if you can disappoint another to be true to yourself; if you can bear the accusation of betrayal and not betray your own soul.

I want to know if you can be faithful and therefore be trustworthy.

I want to know if you can see beauty even if its not pretty every day, and if you can source your life from The presence.

I want to know if you can live with failure, yours and mine, and still stand on the edge of a lake and shout to the sliver of the full moon, "Yes!"

It doesn't interest me to know where you live or how much money you have. I want to know if you can get up after the night of grief and despair, weary and bruised to the bone, and do what needs to be done for the children.

It doesn't interest me who you are and how you came to be here. I want to know if you will stand in the center of the fire with me and not shrink back.

It doesn't interest me where or what or with whom you have studied. I want to know what sustains you from the inside when all else falls away.

I want to know if you can be alone with yourself, and if you truly like the company you keep in the empty moments.

"But that's-- I'm sorry, but that's completely ridiculous! How can I possibly prove it doesn't exist?... I mean, you could claim that anything's real if the only basis for believing in it is that nobody's proved it doesn't exist!"

"Yes, you could," said Xenophilius. "I am glad to see that you are opening your mind a little."

Sweet shoes and sweet dance moves

Gorgeous home on the water

I'll probably regret this next week, when I have nothing left to say, but here's some awesome stuff I came across the last few days. I feel like I hit the jackpot of awesomeness.
