Oh, hello there

Hi Friends.  It's been a long time away from the blog, hasn't it?  Life has been totally crazy on this end.

When I got back from England (pictures coming later this week), I spent some time in PA with my family.  I came back to NY last week to start a new job!

I'm working for these guys:

and let me tell, they are just awesome!  My first week was unbelievably great.  I am so psyched!

Anyway, I'm back.  And ready to play!

a page turn

So, friends, things have settled in for me a bit.  I'm on the other side of looking for a job -- I signed the contract today for a new job starting in June.  I found a job in Manhattan, so I will be staying in the city for the foreseeable future.  This has certainly alleviated a fair amount of anxiety in me.  I really was anxious, my friends - so SO anxious.

The more choices there are, the harder it is to make the decision, don't you think?  (Before you answer, you should know that this is a scientifically proven concept.)  The idea of looking for a job was terrifying to me, because my options were endless.  My next step could have taken me anywhere!  Which makes it hard to take that first step, if you ask me.

Now that I have a job, I'm not going to lie, I feel the tiniest bit disappointed.  Please PLEASE don't get me wrong... I am so grateful to have a job - and one that I think will be fun, educational, and right up my alley, at that!  Honestly, though, I was somewhat looking forward to the notion of venturing off to... wherever!

That said, I'm going to seep my life in the essence of adventure.  Taking classes, cooking new things, taking trips to unfamiliar places.  It's time to sink my teeth in.

A quote I heard recently...  "Stay hungry.  Stay foolish."

YES, PLEASE.

Also, thank you for your patience these past couple weeks. Blogging should be more regular again. :)

on job hunting

I've been needing this reminder a lot lately.  Last week I found out that I will be out of a job, come June.  Through an outrageous combination of circumstances, I am now looking for my fifth job in 18 months.  Needless to say, it sucks and I'm a bit stressed.  It can be difficult to remember that it has absolutely nothing to do with me.

Anyway, in the last few days, I've happened by some interesting job-related tidbits...

- An article on how The Resume is Dead
- A Ted Talk about The Learning Revolution during which Sir Ken Robinson says,

"Very many people go through their whole lives having no real sense of what their talents may be, or if they have any to speak of."

which I found very thought provoking.

dance baby, yeah

Girl Walk // All Day: Chapter 6 from Girl Walk // All Day on Vimeo.

Girl Walk//All Day is a pretty sweet film all about DANCE. You can view it all spliced up on Vimeo. My favorite is The Gentleman, but, you know, The Creep's not half bad either.

The Color Run

I think I'm going to sign up for The Color Run when it comes to New York.  I mean, how could I not?

SNOW

I woke up Saturday morning to the sound of shovels scraping the sidewalk.  Music to my ears!

Cold weather does not feel so cold when there's snow falling.  It's far more enchanting.

And tomorrow we head back up to 50 degrees.  It's been lovely while it's lasted, anyway.

This time last year...

This time last year we were covered in snow.  I am so ready for it.  Come on, Snow!

Central Park, Variation on a theme

I went for a walk around Central Park last weekend as well, using this fun iApp by Bluebrain, called Central Park (Listen to the Light).  "It uses a global positioning network to activate different themes as the listener wanders through the park. The app contains more than 400 tracks, each tied to a location. They were written to fit together harmonically like a sonic jigsaw puzzle."

I have to admit that I often find the GPS stuff creepy, but this was pretty cool.  It was fascinating to hear the different musical themes layering and changing as I ventured from one area of the park to the next.

Moroccan Court

This past Saturday I went to the Met to see the New Galleries for the Art of the Arab Lands, Turkey, Iran, Central Asia, and Later South Asia which reopened in November after extensive renovation.  It was beautiful!

The Moroccan Court was especially impressive. The video below takes you through the creation of the Court.  Wow.

The Damascus Room was utterly amazing as well.  This video shows the removal and reinstallation of the reception area within a Syrian home from the Ottoman Period.

Definitely a worthwhile visit!

Holiday cheer

There are a few simple things keeping me very jolly...

 my bedecked mantle

 The Nutcracker on vinyl
this funny house with wreaths on every window

The holidays are fun!

NYC marathon

The NYC marathon was last Sunday.

Did you know that kids as young as 8 years old have run the marathon in the past?  How crazy is that?  And this year an 84 year old woman endeavored to be the oldest female ever to complete the course.  (She totally rocked it, by the way.)

How are people so awesome?

Tomorrow, I'm heading to Tyler State Park in PA to run a 10K.  I am proud to say that this event has raised over $90,000 in support of Autism Cares, a non-profit that provides free events for people on the autistic spectrum and is in the process of building an Autism Resources Center in Bucks County, PA.

New York Fog

It was so foggy this morning!  I stopped to take a few photos on my morning jog.  (I'm training for a 10K for autism awareness.)  Doesn't the city look powerful?
